Explanation Writing

LI: To understand the structure and language features in an explanation

How did Goldilocks upset the bear family?

To upset someone it’s to make them disappointed, worried, or unhappy. In the fairytale Goldilocks and the three bears. She makes unwise decisions. Have you ever broken into someone’s house?

Goldilocks found a cottage and entered into private property without permission from owners. Goldilocks was disrespectful and has no self morals which is shown when  she ate the bear family’s porridge. She sat on the baby chair in addition she ended up breaking the chair leaving it in pieces.

When the bears got home, they were shocked to find their porridge eaten and  the baby chair was broken. Imagine how upset you would feel getting home to find someone had broken into your house!

To help us understand how to write an explanation we looked at the purpose, the structure (what it looks like) and the language features. An explanation tells us how or why something is the way it is. To help us understand this we learnt about cause and effect. Cause and effect is an action and a reaction. We used the story of Goldilocks and the 3 Bears to help us understand this. Here is our explanation that describes how Goldilocks upset the Bear family.

Te tiriti O Watangi

This week we looked at  what the world was like in 1840. Did you know in 1840 the oldest known photo was taken. After this we identified some of the key people and their role in the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi. I found it interesting that Henry Wiliams and his son Edward translated the Treaty in one night. We then used the information from both of these activities to help us read a painting of the day the treaty was signed. We used our knowledge to infer what the artist Marcus King might have wanted us to think was happening.

I found this really interesting because everything was so different compared to now.

How to make a catapult

I made a catapult for summer lerning journey.

This is how to make your own catapult.

  1. Get a paper and roll it into a tube, or you could get a toilet roll, or something simular to both.
  2. Get a spoon, We ran out of spoons to some of us used a ruler.
  3. You put the ruler or spoon on top of the tube then tie them together with a string.
  4. If your using a ruler cut off the top of a plastic cup and tape the bottom of the cup to one of the edges.

Now you are done making your catapult put soething on it and test it out. If your object flies away then your catapult works!

I enjoyed playing with y catapult.

Inquiry -Skit

This week for inquiry we learnt about a skit.

A skit is a short play.

First we found a group of four or three people then brainstormed ideas for a skit. We then had to make characters and a script so we could make our very own skit.

When we were done, me and my group started to practice our script.

I enjoyed practicing my script.

I did well writing the script.

I need to improve on coming up with ideas faster.

HPE- Netball and Jedi Dodgeball

This week  for PE we played netball and Jedi dodgeball with coach.

We learnt out passing skills in netball. You put the ball near your chest, stand one meter away from the defender.

After that we played Jedi dodgeball, there was two teams one team was wearing red bibs and the other wasnt. There was a Jedi on each team who can save the people who are out. If the Jedi has gotten hit by the ball then that makes the whole team loose.

I enjoyed passing the ball in dodgeball.
